We test knowledge of low level programming (C/C++), real time systems, interrupt handling and memory management. Candidates show experience with debugging tools, JTAG, oscilloscopes and logic analysers. We assess understanding of hardware communication protocols (I2C, SPI, CAN), power management and optimisation techniques. For safety critical positions we check experience with relevant standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) and certification processes.
Good candidates have hands-on experience with specific microcontroller families, debugging tools and development environments. Highlight projects involving optimisation for resource constrained systems, power efficiency improvements or real time performance requirements. Include experience with relevant communication protocols, bootloader development and firmware update mechanisms. Mention work with safety critical systems, certification processes or specialist industries. Documentation skills and experience with requirements traceability are a big plus.
