Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a Platform Engineer to design, build and operate secure, resilient platform capabilities that enable product teams to deliver reliably in a regulated Financial Services environment. You will collaborate with engineering, security and operations to provide self-service infrastructure, standardised tooling and automation across the software delivery lifecycle.
Location & Salary
- Location: United Kingdom (Britain / UK) (hybrid/remote options may be available)
- Salary: £110,000
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain cloud-native platform services (compute, networking, storage, identity) with strong reliability and security controls.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code and reusable modules; manage environments across development, test and production.
- Operate Kubernetes-based platforms and associated tooling (ingress, service mesh, secrets, policy).
- Implement and improve CI/CD pipelines, artefact management and release automation.
- Embed observability: logging, metrics, tracing, alerting and incident response practices.
- Harden platforms to meet regulatory expectations (auditability, access control, change management, data protection).
- Partner with development teams to enable golden paths, templates and documentation.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience as a Platform/DevOps/SRE engineer within complex or regulated environments (Financial Services preferred).
- Proficiency with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP) and core services (VPC/VNet, IAM, KMS, load balancing).
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience (build, upgrade, secure and troubleshoot clusters).
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation/Bicep) and configuration management.
- Solid Linux administration and networking fundamentals (DNS, TLS, routing, firewalls).
- Scripting/programming ability (Python, Go, Bash or similar) to automate workflows.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps) and container registries.
- Security-first mindset: secrets management, vulnerability management, least privilege, supply chain controls.
- Observability tooling experience (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Splunk) and on-call/incident management.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence standards across teams.
Desirable
- Experience with policy-as-code (OPA/Gatekeeper), service mesh (Istio/Linkerd) and SSO/identity integration.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and controls (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS) and audit evidence collection.
- Experience running high-availability platforms and performing capacity planning and cost optimisation.
