Job Description

Platform Engineering Lead

We're looking for an experienced Platform Engineering Lead to lead our platform capability and enable engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable and scalable software.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining people management with technical leadership. You'll manage a team of three Platform Engineers while acting as the technical lead for a wider team of five engineers, setting technical direction, coaching engineers and driving platform excellence.

You'll have started your career as a software developer—ideally with a Java background—and progressed into Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or Kubernetes-focused roles. You'll be passionate about treating infrastructure as a product, improving the developer experience and using automation to simplify software delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of three Platform Engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership for a wider team of five engineers, defining standards and best practices.
  • Design and evolve a secure, scalable cloud platform with a focus on developer experience.
  • Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, GitOps and observability.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to improve platform adoption, reliability and software delivery.
  • Balance strategic planning with hands-on technical leadership where required.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong hands-on experience in Platform Engineering, SRE, DevOps or Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Previous software development experience, ideally in Java or similar enterprise development environments.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, including people management and technical leadership.
  • Strong Kubernetes and container platform expertise.
  • Deep experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with knowledge of Azure and/or AWS.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or Ansible.
  • Experience with CI/CD and GitOps tools such as Jenkins and ArgoCD.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, microservices, networking and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and OpenTelemetry.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
