Job Description – Enterprise Architect (Healthcare)

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid – onsite within 2 hours)

Contract: Long-term contract

 

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to support a large-scale healthcare environment, partnering closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders to define and execute enterprise-wide technology strategy.

 

This role will play a key part in shaping architecture standards, guiding modernization initiatives, and ensuring alignment between business goals and technology solutions across a complex, fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate IT projects to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and strategic objectives
  • Define high-level architecture, technology roadmaps, and target state solutions
  • Establish and maintain enterprise architecture frameworks across:
  • Applications
  • Data
  • Infrastructure
  • Integration
  • Security
  • Govern architecture standards, ensuring compliance across systems and projects
  • Drive modernization, scalability, and lifecycle management of IT services
  • Collaborate with business and IT leaders to ensure secure, interoperable solutions
  • Develop architecture artifacts including diagrams, blueprints, and roadmaps
  • Integrate risk management, compliance, and security into architecture practices
  • Assess emerging technologies and industry trends to inform strategy
  • Map business capabilities to IT systems to ensure investment alignment
  • Act as a trusted advisor and internal consultant to technical teams and leadership
  • Mentor engineering teams and promote best practices in architectural thinking

 

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience designing and delivering enterprise technology solutions
  • Strong background in enterprise architecture within complex environments
  • Experience with architecture governance, standards, and frameworks
  • Proven ability to align technology strategy with business outcomes

 

Preferred Experience

  • Healthcare industry experience (highly desirable)
  • Experience with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Experience leading or supporting large-scale transformation initiatives
  • Background in project or program delivery

 

Technical Expertise

  • Enterprise Architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF)
  • Cloud architecture (Azure Cloud Adoption Framework or similar)
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Cloud & infrastructure design
  • APIs & integration patterns
  • Databases, virtualization, and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with development languages such as:
  • Java, C#, Python, PowerShell
  • SDLC methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, DevOps)

 

Governance & Compliance

  • Experience with IT governance frameworks (ITIL, PMBOK)
  • Strong knowledge of security and compliance standards:
  • NIST, ISO 27001, SOC
  • HIPAA, HITRUST
  • Understanding of risk management and regulatory requirements

 

Healthcare & Interoperability (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with healthcare standards:
  • FHIR
  • HL7
  • X12
  • Understanding of interoperability and connected healthcare ecosystems

  • Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills
  • Ability to influence and drive adoption of architecture principles
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Business-focused mindset with an understanding of ROI and cost optimization
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and hands-on approach
