How to ace your recruitment consultant interview

If you’re googling “How to ace your recruitment consultant interview” then the nerves have probably already set in. But we’re here to help. We’ve got loads of experience hosting consultant interviews all over the world and we’ve collected some great pointers for you.

Do your research

When you show up for your recruitment consultant interview, you’ll want to be prepared. That means you should be on time and have a copy of your CV and note-taking supplies. But you’ll need to be mentally prepared too. Before you arrive, make sure you’ve researched the firm well. You’ll want to know as much as you can about their mission and values. This can help you position your strengths in the framework of their existing culture. You’ll also want to understand who the key players are. This is pretty easy to find on LinkedIn when you search for that company.

Practice answering confidently

There are plenty of resources for sample interview questions. And they’re great to review. But beyond delivering canned answers, you’ll likely be challenged by your interviewer to think on your feet. You might want to try applying the LARA method. It’s a sales technique that also works well in interviews. It stands for Listen, Affirm, Respond, and Ask Questions. It can keep you from feeling flustered when you’re asked a question you’ve not prepared for or your nerves are playing up. By carefully listening, repeating back what you’ve heard and then answering; you’re giving yourself time to think. Lastly, when you follow up with questions of your own, the interviewer is likely to believe you’re fully engaged in the conversation too.
