Overview
We are seeking a Data Centre Engineer to deliver consultancy-led engineering support across data centre environments. You will work on design assurance, implementation, optimisation and operational readiness, advising stakeholders on best practice, resilience and compliance. This role blends hands-on technical capability with client-facing communication and structured documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical consultancy for data centre build, refurbishment and expansion projects, including site assessments and risk reviews.
- Support day-to-day operations: incident response, problem management, root-cause analysis and service restoration.
- Maintain and improve critical infrastructure (power, cooling, racks, structured cabling and physical security) to meet availability targets.
- Plan and execute changes, migrations and maintenance windows with clear method statements, rollback plans and stakeholder comms.
- Monitor environmental and electrical systems (BMS/DCIM where applicable), trend performance and recommend improvements.
- Produce high-quality documentation: as-built records, SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, capacity plans and audit evidence.
- Ensure adherence to health & safety, security controls and relevant standards (e.g., ISO 27001, ISO 9001).
- Collaborate with network, systems and facilities teams, third-party vendors and on-site contractors.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a data centre engineering or critical environment role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical fundamentals: UPS, generators, switchgear, CRAC/CRAH, chilled water, containment and airflow management.
- Practical experience with structured cabling, rack/stack, hardware break-fix and labelling standards.
- Understanding of redundancy concepts (N, N+1, 2N), capacity management and resilience testing.
- Competence in troubleshooting across facilities and IT domains; able to work calmly under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, comfortable presenting findings and recommendations to clients.
- Familiarity with ITIL practices, change control and ticketing tools.
- Right to work in the Netherlands and willingness to participate in on-call/out-of-hours support where required.
Desirable
- Vendor or industry certifications (e.g., CDCP/CDCS, ITIL Foundation, ISO 27001 awareness).
- Experience with DCIM/BMS platforms, monitoring/alerting and reporting.
- Exposure to cloud/hybrid infrastructure and migration projects in enterprise environments.
